"Never let the fear of striking, keep you from playing the game"
This weekend it was time for some Gaelic Football. Teams from Shanghai, Busan and Daegu joined up with the team from Seoul at a beautiful statium in Seoul. I was asked to help out this weekend with keeping score of all the games at the tounrament. And I was actually quite excited to do this since I have this new app on my ipad that I really needed to try out. An excel app. But as with any weekend in Seoul it doesn't always provide a drama free weekend. I would like to concentrate on the positive but I have to share this story with you.
Friday night after school I packed and made my way to the station as per usual. Got to the hostel and since it was the opening function of the tournament at Route 66 in Itaewon I hurried to my room, dropped my stuff and hurried out. In a hurry I opened the dark girls dorm room and switched on the light. Standard thing to do right? Anyway, according to me it is. I immediately got asked by a room mate how long I'm gonna be and if I could switch off the light asap... But she wasn't sleeping instead she was listening to music, laughing singing and dancing around on her back. I rushed out of the room respecting her wishes.
The opening function was great. Met some really nice and interesting people and had the best honey mustard chicken sandwich ever. I drank a Belgium white beer but to be honest it doesn't sand a chance against a nice cold Castle Lite Draught. Most of the people at the function were from Ireland. That's ultimately where Gaelic football comes from. The other teams weren't there and because the tournament was the next day it wasn't a late night event. Gezina and I headed back to the hostel around 11ish.
When we arrived at the hostel the dorm room light was still off and for sometime things were quiet with this African American chicky. I think asking for the light to be off is one of her standarized questions simce she asked us again. But we had to settle in and pack for the saturday. We also had to test a loud speaker and take a shower. All relatively normal things to do before you go to bed. Oh and get all electric appliances (cellphones) charged. I went out for a moment to speak to a dear friend of mine. That conversation was long and cheerful and definitely something I've been longing to do in a while. I just love speaking to the people who knows all my inns and outs. When I got back to the room this girl was still not sleeping and it was well after 12 but who am I to judge? I just went to bed. Lets just make this short and sweet. She never went to sleep, she laughed the whole night through. I was soooo pissed off the morning.
After getting ready we went to the stadium where the games began. It was such an awesome day with the Seoul Gaels winning and me having laughs and conversations with all the teams. It was really a great day and interesting as well. I learned a little thing or two about keeping score and how to work out who's in the play-offs. It was great to be in charge of that. And it also secured me a ticket to a free buffet and afterparty the evening. It was such a great evening out. With lost of talking, dancing and laughing the night came to an end just before sunrise. One of my friend's walked me home to the hostel.
This is where the big bitch fight started. This girl in my dorm through a fit and called the manager after seeing my friend who really just wanted to show me in and see the hostel as his from another city. With tours they always searching for a good hostel. When management pitched up she through around rough accusations lef, right and center. Apparently I got undressed infront of a guy in a public place, I wanted to shower with him in a public place and my friend who was standing outside in the hallway, was sleeping in my bed. I couldn't stand around and listen to the utter bullshit coming from her mouth. So I put her on her place verbally. I did feel like I could just tackle her and throw her like I do in hapkido but I'm a little more civilized than that. I cannot believe that someone can throw such a big fit, call management instead of sorting it out with me and then on top of that lie about everything that happened and try and put in in a bad light. I think the worst part about all of this to me was that she had a bible chilling on her bed thicker than any bible I have ever seen.
Luckily for me what she didn't know is that I'm a regular customer at that hostel and the management knows me really well. So management ended up giving her a warning. One thing I have learned is that you should always be open and clear about who you are and someday it will help you when somebody tries to put you down. And I guess I finally learned how to stand up for myself.
