- Lazy and a whole lot of crazy-
After having Friday afternoon off, making this weekend a long weekend, I headed to Uijeongbu for the weekend to visit some friends. But first I met up with my darling friend, Reberta (South Africa), for lunch, catch up and solutions to South Africa's problems. We came to the conclusion that we have to build 10 more Universities each with a different language t-option, thus a Zulu-English, Xhosa-English etc. We also came to the conclusion that we should reinstate the rule that all men (and woman) should go to the army for at least 2 years after school. No 18 year old kid knows what they want to do with their life and putting them in the army would give them the time to figure it out whilst being productive and ultimately it would create jobs. Productive conversation right?
The Friday evening a went out with other friends catching up on life in Korea and everyone's experiences. Here in Korea there isn't something like a bottle store or a liquor store like back at home in South Africa. You go to your nearest 7/11 or GS family store grab yourself a beer, pay and have a party on the sidewalk. It's quite unique to do so. I guess it originated from the fact that people in Korea don't have balconies or roof tops where they can just chill with a bunch of friends.
The Saturday evening our little groupie went for some Korean stew, that was really good but really spicy, before heading out to Seoul for Daniel's surprise birthday party. I didn't know the guy at all but I went along anyway. That's ultimately how you meet people isn't it. The evening turned out to be great. There was a few people I previously met so it was quite nice to have some intelligent conversations with them too. I am quite surprised sometimes with the amount of knowledge some people have and their life stories. It proves to me over and over again that you cannot judge a book by its cover at all, something we tend to forget from time to time. It's really easy to judge and I'm guilty of that.
After the party we just had to go do some Karaoke. Once again sang my voice away and saw some pretty great talent as well. After that it was time for some dancing in Hongdae but getting there was quite a story. There are two stations that sounds so much the same and obviously being a foreigner doesn't help. So we went on a little bit of a detour to get to Hongdae. I see it as an adventure but others might see it as something else. We eventually got there and it was so packed that we couldn't breath in the places. We ended up sitting at a quiet bar (Thursday party) having a cocktail and discussing our next destination, home.
It's Sunday now and laying in bed all day just chilling and having a mental day is exactly what you need after being intellectually and physically pickled all weekend.
Have a great week everyone.
