"Music is a world within itself with a language we all understand"- Stevie Wonder
In Korea, as I have mentioned in previous posts, Kpop is really big. Kpop aka Korean pop. One of the only big Korean acts who made it onto our radio stations back in South Africa would be the one and only Psy and I guess the only reason why is because of its bizarre dance moves and the catchy tune.
The Kpop group Psy who is most famous for their song Gangnam Style performed at a free show in Uijeongbu this weekend alongside the Kpop group Sisters. I joined two of my close friends in Uijeongbu to go watch this legend live. The show was held in the Uijeongbu Sport Stadium. Although it was really cold and rainy Koreans actually pitched making it a feast be see. We didn't have any coffee to keep us warm so the only option we had was to dance and sing along.
My honest opinion - He is a legend in his own right with a stage personality that gets the whole audience on their feet dancing to his songs.
We took some videos of our festive night out. But here is one that sums it up beautifully.
There was a whole parade followed by singing the Korean Anthem. I actually saw afterwards that my Hapkido coach and fellow kickers took part in the parade. I'm not sure what the the whole parade etc. was about as it is all in Korean and finding out is quite a mission. During the time of the speeches my friend and I made an abeoji (grandfather) laugh since we couldn't stop ourselves from taking selfies of our socks. We wore the same Minion socks and since we are both teachers Minions are quite legendary little creatures loved by our students.
