It was an artistic affair

"Beautiful art speaks to the soul like nothing else can"

- Ania Botha

This weekend I was amazed by yet another form of art. I love it when artists make art out of natural things without the destruction of nature. Nature in itself is an art piece on its own and if that could be used to create a masterpiece it speaks so much louder.

This weekend Beca and I joined the Seoul Hiking Group for a tour to Taebaek Snow festival. We arrived at 4am in the morning and half the group hiked up the mountain to see the sunrise whilst the other half went to the jimjibang to catch up on some sleep. The hiking was really cold with temperatures reaching -20˚C. Beca went on the hike while I stayed behind and caught up on some sleep. I couldn't exactly hike up the mountain because I'm a little cripple at the moment. But that didn't stop me from going. There was still a snow festival to enjoy.

There was 3 let's say stations with ice sculptures by different artists. There was something of everything. From sledding to sliding to hot chocolate in a real igloo. It was quite amazing and something to see and experience. The Koreans go crazy with their selfie sticks and photo's so much so that it was hard to get a photo of the sculpture without getting a group of Koreans in the photo striking a pose. We had to photobomb a few of the photo's. That's just what waygooks do. It was extremely cold and slippery so we didn't gallivant too much outside. We did enjoy a slide; even I did the slide.

On one of the stations there were sculptures representing certain countries. It was quite interesting and amazing. The amount of detail that went into these sculptures are incredible. Every detail was precisely planned and carved out. And these sculptures were at least about 5m tall and 5m wide, maybe more. Yet even though it's so big I still managed to decapitate a man bowing to an elephant. We tried to repair it but the poor man ended up with only half his brains.

Thereafter we went to explore the coal museum and looked at a few beautiful rocks. I was being funny and grabbed a wheelchair and signed myself in. Beca pushed me until she realized I can wheel myself around; she is such a kind friend. It was quite funny. I can walk but who wouldn't want to play around in a wheelchair. Only sucky thing about the wheelchair was that I couldn't see all the rocks on the side since people simply stood in front of me and I didn't want to hurt them.
