Hapkido Black Belt Examination and Graduation

"You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it."

This past year I dedicated myself to a sport I knew nothing about. It was the best decision I made as doing hapkido really gave me so much joy and laughter every single night at practise.

We practised every night 5 times a week even on public holidays for an hour. Every night had it's own set of exercises we had to master and no two days were the same. In January I broke a toe during self defense practise which caused for wearing a cast for 7 weeks and obviously this influenced my exercising experience. The master had to stop me from doing certain things as I was overeager to still do what I did before I broke my toe. With a lot of frustration I managed to keep it together.

On the 26th of February my cast got removed and I was free at last to wear two of the same shoes again. On March 1st I did my black belt examination and Graduated red belt receiving my Black belt. In the beginning of last year I came to Korea with the goal to get my black belt and this was also communicated to my Master. And so I did.

This whole experience taught me that when I set my mind on something may that be a goal I want to achieve or something I want to keep or change in my life I am capable of doing so. Hard work and determination to the end is something you don't find in everybody. I proved it to myself. And that is what I am most proud of. As long as you enjoy what you are doing.

I'm not somebody who really brags about things but I think getting a Black belt at the age of 24 after a year of practising the Arts I'm quite proud of myself. My black belt even has my name on it and I am officially registered at the Arts of Hapkido Association of Korea. I even have an ID card.
